Club Christmas Dinner, 2014

The famous Largs Pier Hotel was chosen for this year’s club Christmas Dinner, and although this was the place that Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel started out, it is a bit more laid back these days. But it is also an excellent pub – a beautifully restored old building, great food, and excellent service.

Some of the group decided to make a night of it, and stayed in the pub, and all reports were that the accommodation was great as well.

Weekend Away, Strathalbyn, October 2014

People do the daily commute to Adelaide from Strathalbyn, so you might ask “Why have a weekend away there?” Because it is in the middle of the Fleurieu Peninsula, home to some of the greatest driving roads anywhere in the world.

Our varied little group had a brilliant drive the long way on Saturday (can we go an even longer way, please?), and the Victoria Hotel excelled in both the welcome they gave us, and the magnificent evening dinner. No one was driving home, so…

The Sunday return trip via another longer way – Milang on the lake, and Langhorne Creek finished off a great weekend away.

MCSA Supersprint Round 3, July 2014

Some more good Fiat news – Russel Frick’s crazy X1/9 track car has landed at Mallala.

And what a landing! Despite sensibly treading warily, Russell has put down a 1:22.9 lap, with plenty more to come when he and the X get a bit more familiar with each other. The car is powered by a 240hp Honda VTEC engine, which makes it a bit more lively than the usual 1500 SOHC.

And also significant, Andrew Coles’ recently rebuit (again) X1/9 also made the road trip this time with no problems, including a short spin around the track.

MCSA Supersprint Round 2, June 2014

Some more good news – we have another new Fiat on the track at Mallala for the MSCA super sprints!

Greg Schultz has been building his beautiful X1/9 1500 for some years now, and at last has got to run it on the track. Not only did he have a trouble free run (quite an achievement on it’s own for a new car), but has already set the benchmark for speed with a maiden 1:26.5 lap! we will watch with interest, but Greg’s definitely on the move.

Also competing were club members Garren Harrell and Mike Coles. Garren in the MX5 getting faster and faster as he gets used to the MX5 and the new tyres, and Mike struggling in the Alfa with diabolical handling after making some suspension “improvements”.
